The Research Centre for Blockchain Technology (RCBT) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) showcased its thought leadership on 9 September 2025 at the WOW Summit Hong Kong 2025 Web3 Stage at AsiaWorld-Expo with a specially curated session titled “PolyU Spotlight: Building a Reliable and Secure Web3 Ecosystem”. The session brought together emerging scholars from PolyU to highlight the university’s latest contributions to Web3 security, reliability, and trust-enabling technologies.

The session was introduced under the leadership of Professor Man Ho Allen Au, Professor and Associate Head (Research and Development), Department of Computing, and Director of RCBT at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, together with Professor Daniel Xiapu Luo, Professor and Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, and Co-Director of RCBT. Professor Luo was present to deliver the opening remarks, emphasizing that while Web3 continues to evolve with remarkable innovation, it also presents growing challenges around security and system vulnerabilities. He highlighted that research-led development is essential to building the reliability and trust required for real-world adoption. The session also reflected PolyU’s commitment not only to advancing cutting-edge research but also to cultivating the next generation of leaders in the Web3 space.

The session featured four presentations by emerging PolyU scholars from the Department of Computing, each exploring critical dimensions of Web3 reliability and security. Topics included the role of large language models in Web3, graph-based approaches to anomaly detection, the use of cryptography to enhance privacy and trust in Web3, and the discovery of vulnerabilities stemming from understudied implementation inconsistencies in Ethereum.




The PolyU session highlighted the university’s ongoing contributions to the Web3 ecosystem. As the ecosystem continues to evolve, PolyU remains committed to advancing impactful research and nurturing the next generation of talent in this field.
